Meet Andrew Hummel: Managing J. Flowers Health Institute’s Many Moving Parts

Since joining J. Flowers Health Institute as Clinical Logistics Manager in 2019, Andrew Hummel has been seamlessly juggling the scheduling needs of clients, staff, and liaisons—a task that might seem like a logistical nightmare to some but is where Hummel thrives. “Everything needs to work cohesively; there are a lot of moving parts here, so everything needs to be well-balanced,” he said. “But that’s how my brain works.”
Hummel’s diverse work history—from teaching to workforce development to management—has contributed to his exceptional people skills and planning discipline. After graduating from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2005 with a degree in Communications and Elementary Education, Hummel began his career in education. He moved to Houston in 2010, drawn by professional opportunities, and quickly found that the city offered him a new sense of happiness and purpose.
Before joining J. Flowers Health Institute, Hummel taught social studies and computer workforce development classes to urban high school students in Denver. “Teaching was as much an education for me as it was for the students,” he said. From 2014 to 2019, Hummel further sharpened his organizational skills by managing membership programs and customer relations, an experience that honed his ability to multitask and connect with people.
A sports enthusiast, Hummel enjoys golf, softball, and tennis, but his true passion is following the Cleveland Browns. “My dad took me to the Browns versus Broncos game when I was nine years old,” he recalled. “Seeing his joy that day left a lasting impression. From that moment, there was no question who I’d be rooting for.”
Hummel is deeply committed to his work at J. Flowers Health Institute, where the mission is to help people improve their lives. “That’s huge,” he said. “Even though I’m not involved in the clinical aspects, I have a key role in making everything run smoothly. We all have a vested interest in making people better, and that means a lot to me.”
